A British ocean liner that was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland in 1915. All 1198 passengers were killed. Its sinking was a major contributing factor to the American declaration of war against Germany two years later as part of WWI, as the boat was full of civilian passengers, 128 of whom were American citizens.
